Motivation gets you started. Habit keeps you going. As a nomad, you don’t have a boss telling you when to work. You need a routine.
Here is How to Create a Daily Routine That Actually Works.
1. The “Anchor” Habit
Pick ONE thing you do every single morning, no matter where you are. For me, it is “Drink coffee and write in a journal.”
This signals to your brain: “The day has started.” It creates stability in chaos.
2. Deep Work Blocks
Schedule 4 hours of “Deep Work” where you do the hard stuff. Turn off your phone. Do this when you have the most energy (for me, 8 AM – 12 PM).
3. The “Shutdown” Ritual
When you work from home (or a hotel), work can bleed into the evening. You need to officially “Close the office.”
At 5 PM, close your laptop, put it in your bag, and go for a walk. This physical separation is crucial for mental health.
Kiran’s Take: Environment Design
If you work in your pajamas in bed, you will not be productive.
Put on shoes. Sit at a table. Create a “Work Mode” environment. I wear noise-cancelling headphones even when it is quiet, just to tell my brain “It is focus time.”
Conclusion
Routine is freedom. By automating the basics, you free up mental energy for the creative work.
